Bio

Fridrik Fr. lives and works in Reykjavik, Iceland. He acquired a passion for photography in childhood but received his education in biology “to avoid drowning the passion in boring work duties”. Fridrik is self-taught, learned and practised the analog photography techniques from the writings of Ansel Adams, Minor White and others but embraced the digital technology when the quality allowed and is working in that medium today.

Artists statement

I'm a lone wanderer
lost in space and emotions
using camera as a drawing pad
to save moments and create monuments
for us to look at in our good and bad moments of life,
so we can keep on wandering.
If lucky we might even find some order in all this
…if there is any.

The best images are often not the ones evoking astonishment at first look. You may not particularly want to look at them more than a few times. Probably the best images are the ones you may walk by at first, but you are drawn to again - and again. You may begin to notice some feelings, quiet joy, love, sadness, loneliness, inspiration, excitement, fulfilment. And you find that this image you would like to have close to you. Use it to cool you down when you’re overloaded and to give you power when life is dull. To correct your compass and remind you of what is worth living for and what is not.
This is a hell of a load to put on an image and probably few can have such an impact. I guess the way is to have some in sight, continue to look for the quiet greatness and embrace the feelings. The best ones may continue to give as long as you live. That's art.

My images are not meant to be descriptions of some particular places or phenomena but rather to be symbols for the things and my feelings for it - the Earth, the nature, us humans and our creations and environment.
